Archery Quivers – Choosing the Kind that Fits Your Style
Archery quivers are essential tools to any bow hunter or target shooter who chooses archery. In a nutshell,
archery quivers are simply containers where arrows can be put inside, for convenience, safety and comfort when
using a bow and arrow. But it takes a bit of research and experimentation to find which kind, fits exactly in one’s
bow hunting or target archery style.
Traditional Back Quivers
If you prefer bow hunting and field archery the traditional way,
back quivers are the way to go.
What’s great about a traditional archery back quiver is that they are spacious enough to hold enough arrows that
you will need.
Quality back quivers are made from real authentic cow leather, hold around 12 and more arrows, and have adjustable
shoulder straps that should fit perfectly on your shoulder and back.
Traditional back quivers usually come in brown leather, or the newer ones in black, brown or camoflage colour.
Back quivers are great for the outdoors and can stand the heat or cold and this kind of leather basically takes
care of itself. Other back quivers are made of vinyl with suede trims, which need more care for the fabric, so
leather back quivers can very well be a better investment.
One drawback of this type of quiver is the arrows can rattle around and it can be noisey.
Side, Hip and Pocket Archery Quivers
Side quivers are made up of spacious pockets or tubes for aluminum
or carbon-made arrows. As the name implies, side quivers are mounted to a belt, and can be swivelled from left
to right sides.
They have adjustable straps for tying around a tree and D-rings for easy hanging. Side quivers are popular with
target archers.
On the other hand, hip quivers are built with dual arrow brackets, but also hold up to 6 or more aluminum or
carbon arrows. They are mostly alike to side quivers. Both quivers allow 6 arrows or more to be placed inside the
spacious pocket, and both are accustomed to aluminum and carbon arrows. They both also come in assorted brands and
colours. The only difference is that side quivers can only be worn on either left or right side, while hip quivers
can be moved along each side.
Pocket quivers are also types of hip quivers that are cheaper and hold a lesser number of arrows just enough for
a short hunting trip.
Bow Quivers
When it comes to keeping the bows and arrows at close range to each other, the
best solution would be to use a bow quiver. They keep the arrows neatly intact just beside your bow, because
they are permanently mounted on the bow.
Most bow quivers are made of lightweight plastic that usually come in solid colours which should match the bow. The
adjustable quiver lengths range from 10 to 18 inch long and can accommodate recurve bows and compound bows.
One downside to the bow quiver, however, is that it can generally only carry up to 8 arrows at once, (most brands
only have 6 arrow capacity) reducing the amount of arrows that can be used at one bow hunting trip or target
practice.
Ground Quivers
Ground quivers are made of material that sticks to the ground and are more popular with junior shooters who are
in competitions or school camps. These archery quivers allow easy access to their arrows and some can have
partitioned compartments to protect the arrows.
Cat Archery Quivers
One unusaul archery quiver, is the Cat Quiver. As well as holding the arrows it has a compartment for extra
clothes or rain gear, a treestand or ground hunter will definitely benefit from it.
Cat quivers with safari-like timber designs, which are usually made of either saddlecloth or fleece fabric. They
can withstand long outdoor hunting trips and works well with the heat and cold weather.
Popular Archery Brands
Some of the popular brands of archery quivers used by bow hunters and target archers would be Alpine, Apex,
Bohning, Neet, PSE, Selway, Cartel and many more.
Archery quivers make life easier, whether bow hunting, 3D archery or competitive target archery, they protect and
secure your arrows.
